From the President,
I would like to thank all of you who joined us in Deerfield, IL for the 2011 B-Girl
reunion. Based on the feedback I received during the reunion I
can unequivocally say that a great time was had by all. The sea stories grow wilder and more amazing with
each passing year, this one was no exception. I was hard pressed to find anyone during the reunion that could
find anything worth griping about. Our banquet went off without a hitch and everyone seemed to enjoy the
food. The hospitality suite opened early every day and didn’t shut down until early morning. The beer was plentiful and constantly flowing. A group of us played cards
every evening and reminisced about our glory days on the boats and our old shipmates.
The US Navy was able to allow us onto Great Lakes RTC to witness the graduation of
ten companies of recruits. As an added bonus we also had an opportunity to shop in the Navy exchange
during the visit to the base. The trip to the museum of science and Industry was a great success. The U-505
exhibit has been reworked and was very much worth seeing. Our
trip to the Fairbanks Morse plant was a great experience. Fairbanks Morse did everything possible to make us
feel at home. One of our tour guides served on subs and knew some of our reunion participants. We all
received ball caps and posters suitable for framing to remember our visit. The banquet was geared towards a Hawaiian theme. The Ladies auxiliary did a
great job decorating the room and made sure all of us were properly Leighed. Our Guest of honor James
Struble, Commander of the Bonefish, XO of the Blueback and Navigator of the Barbell, gave a great talk that
touched everyone present at the banquet.
Our next reunion will be in two years in Charleston South Carolina. We will hold it in the
spring or fall to be determined by the information Sherry gathers for us regarding pricing and options. I strongly recommend that you do everything possible to
join us in Charleston. Please periodically check out the website for updates regarding our 2013
reunion.
