Board Meets to Discuss Reunion Plans

Shipmates,

On March 28th assembled the board for a conference call to discuss the details of the 2013 reunion. We discussed the tour dates, location and hotel location for our 2013 reunion in Charleston. Our goal to have the reunion registration packets available for distribution one year prior to the reunion to maximize our ability to promote it and to give everyone ample time to save the dates and arrange for time off. The following is a summary of that meeting held via conference call, 28 March, 2012.

The Board approved the date location and hotel for our next reunion. It will be held May 1st through 4th, 2013 in Charleston, SC at the Sheraton Airport Hotel. This is the same Hotel we used to hold our Submarine Birthday Ball.

Sherry Mills, our tour coordinator assembled a list of possible activities. The list includes tour of the Confederate Sub Hunley, Downtown Charleston tour, Patriot’s Point visit , Fort Sumter outing, and a plantation tour. The board approved these activities, and asked that Sherry further research these items, i.e. cost and feasibility.

The  potential guest speaker, Admiral Willard, was discussed. Admiral Willard was in charge of the Top Gun program, and should be able to provide a very interesting perspective on today’s Navy. The proposal to invite him to speak was approved and we will invite him to be our guest speaker.

The ’theme’ for this reunion was discussed. We all agreed the Hawaiian theme at the last reunion added to every ones overall enjoyment. The Charleston reunion will have a Pirate theme. The Ladies Auxiliary have been notified and we expect them to do another wonderful job with decorations.

We all agreed that we need to improve communication between the board members and the communication between the board members and at large members as well. We will be making a greater effort to get as much info out on the website as soon as it becomes available. Ed Hayden expects to send e-mails to all members as info becomes available. Secretary Andre Dupras also will be working with Ed Hayden to update our member list. During the mass ‘snail-mail’ mailings prior to the last reunion, we discovered over 15% of the addresses in the system were wrong! We will send out a request to members not current with dues, with a request to contact Andy Dupras to become current. In time, with Ed Hayden’s help, members will receive an e-mail notifying them when dues have expired.

We will schedule another meeting once more information is available from Sherry Mills.

Andy Dupras, Sec. Treasurer

Andre Dupras – Secretary
Andy Baranowski – President
Paul Stein – BOD Representative Blue Back
John Stait - Chaplain
